Portland reaches eighth homicide of 2026 as city weighs new anti-violence steps

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — On Tuesday, Portland hit a grim milestone with its eighth homicide so far of 2026 after an early-morning shooting on the city’s southeast side.

Also on Tuesday, Portland city leaders discussed efforts to reduce gun violence during a public safety meeting, highlighting a decline in shootings and ongoing outreach to people considered most at risk.
