Accused serial killer arraigned on fifth murder charge

A man accused of killing multiple women and disposing of their bodies in the Portland area was arraigned on Wednesday on a fifth murder charge.

Jesse Calhoun entered a not-guilty plea through his defense attorney during a hearing in Portland attended by relatives of the victims. Calhoun did not speak during the proceedings, which followed his indictment last week on a second-degree murder charge linked to the death of Ashley Real, 22, in 2023.

Calhoun now faces five counts of second-degree murder and four counts of abuse of a corpse. The bodies of the alleged victims were discovered over several months in early 2023, prompting fears that a serial killer could be targeting young women in the region…
