PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Two sizable earthquakes were recorded off the Oregon and California coasts on Wednesday afternoon.
The first of the two happened just west of the Oregon and California border around 3:53 a.m. Wednesday. The first of the Pacific Ocean quakes was recorded as a magnitude 5.7 and was the strongest of the two quakes. The USGS reported a total of 37 people felt this quake.
The second quake, farther to the south, occurred around 5:45 a.m. and was slightly weaker at a magnitude of 5.1. Even though this quake was slightly weaker, a total of 115 people reported feeling the quake, likely because of its closer proximity to a larger city and slightly farther east than the first quake.
May ranked as Top 10 driest on record in Portland
