Next Adventure reverses course, will remain open with original owners in Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Next Adventure, the outdoor store that has been a mainstay of Portland’s Central Eastside for over two decades, will remain open with its original owners, in a reversal of a closure announcement last year.

In a press release on Monday night, store owners Deek Heykamp and Bryan Knudsen announced they have decided to retain ownership of the store after a previous potential sale fell through.

“Last spring we announced that we were ready to retire. After our announcement, a small investment group came forward to buy Next Adventure and keep it open. We were under contract to sell the business for several months, but as things happen – the deal fell through. During this process, Bryan and I realized how important it is to keep Next Adventure going for the outdoor community, our staff and our city,” Heykamp said in a statement.

The owners said they plan to keep the current business model going, selling new and used outdoor gear — including close-outs, trade-ins, consignments and brand name products — sold at discount prices…
