PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Summer temperatures build over western Oregon and southwest Washington again Friday as sunshine remains widespread.
Sunny skies from sunrise to sunset will help push Portland area temperatures back towards 90 degrees by Friday afternoon. These warmer-than-average temperatures are short-lived. Another round of clouds and cooler temperatures returns by the start of the weekend.
An onshore flow will help keep western Oregon and southwest Washington clear of wildfire smoke Friday through Sunday. This type of flow will help cool temperatures in the valley by Saturday as clouds increase.
Wildfires in Oregon persist despite overnight rain
The westerly flow of air will increase the wildfire threat for central and eastern Oregon. Downsloping winds over this already dry landscape will continue to dry out the region as wind speeds near 30 mph.
Red Flag Warnings will go into place Friday afternoon and last through Saturday night. The hot, dry, and breezy conditions will continue to help fuel wildfires already burning. On top of the wildfire threat, current fires will continue to keep skies hazy with poor air quality.
The greater Portland-Vancouver area will see a stable and seasonal weather pattern through the end of next week. Afternoon temperatures are expected to remain in the low to mid-80s, while overnight lows return to the upper 50s…
