PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — After nearly seven decades as a fixture in Northeast Portland, the Lloyd Center is closing its doors.
The shopping center shuts down permanently Saturday night, marking the end of an era for generations of Portlanders who grew up shopping, skating and making memories there.
The Lloyd Center opened in August of 1960, quickly becoming one of the largest shopping centers in the Pacific Northwest. Today, the mall encompasses about 1.2 million square feet.
“It was the largest mall in the PNW. One of the largest in the country,” Oregon Historical Society Executive Director Kerry Tymchuk recalled. “It was the end all and be all here in Portland.”…
