PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A propane tank leak briefly prompted a shelter-in-place alert for residents in Hillsboro on Sunday night before firefighters quickly got the situation under control, authorities said.
At about 8:30 p.m., the Hillsboro Fire and Rescue said they responded to a report of a strong gas odor near the Hillsboro Parks Maintenance building in the 400 block of Northeast 53rd Avenue.
When firefighters arrived, they found “a large propane tank that was actively leaking from a valve,” a spokesperson for HF&R told KOIN 6 News. “As a precaution, nearby residents were temporarily asked to shelter in place while firefighters deployed protective hose lines and worked to shut off the valves and stop the leak.”

During the response, crews actively monitored the area for hazardous gas levels.
