PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Many small businesses are pushing for community support amid what has been described as a period of economic uncertainty — including an award-winning Oregon bakery.
In an Instagram post shared earlier this week, The Hungry Hero Dessert Co. called on customers to support the Sherwood shop at 22566 SW Washington St. as it experiences a decline in sales. Alex Wilson, who operates the bakery alongside his partner Ryan Wilson, said business was booming toward the beginning of the year — but a downturn has occurred over the past several months.

“Our wholesale orders have slowed dramatically,” Alex Wilson wrote. “Catering bookings are down. And everywhere I look, I’m seeing other small businesses experiencing the same thing. I watch almost daily on social media as other bakeries and shops close down due to rising costs and falling sales. We are no exception.”
He originally launched the business in 2010, before opening its first storefront five years later. In addition to slinging desserts out of its brick-and-mortar shop, The Hungry Hero has also catered hundreds of weddings. Wilson even won an episode of Netflix’s “Sugar Rush: Christmas” in 2020…
