PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Portland man who surrendered himself after fatally shooting another at a TriMet MAX stop will spend more than two decades behind bars.
Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Benjamin Souede sentenced Moyasar Osman Mohamed-Ahmed to 22 years in prison on Sept. 3, the District Attorney’s Office has revealed. The sentence stems from an incident that occurred on June 27, 2024.

Mohamed-Ahmed began arguing with Sean Smeeden after encountering the man on a train platform at North Interstate Avenue and Prescott Street around 8:30 p.m. that evening, according to officials. Authorities said the 31-year-old man initially chose not to fire a gun after pulling it out, but later returned to shoot Smeeden after they had both separated.
TriMet security cameras captured the incident, according to the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office.
“This sort of violence has no place in our community,” Senior Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney Brian Davidson said. “Our office will aggressively prosecute those who hurt others. We are also sending out the message that crime in and around the TriMet system will not be tolerated.”…
