PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – This weekend, the closure of a central section of I-5 in Portland begins. Predicted to impact tens of thousands of people, here’s everything you need to know about the Rose Quarter Improvement Project.
Closure Details
The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) will completely close I-5 Southbound (SB) between I-405 and I-84 at 10 p.m. on Friday, with some ramps facing closure as early as 9 p.m.
The following four on-ramps will be closed:
- Alberta Street to I-5 SB
- I-405 NB to I-5 SB
- Greeley Avenue to I-5 SB
- Wheeler/Williams/Ramsay at the Moda Center to I-5 SB
These additional two off-ramps will close as well:
- I-5 SB to I-84 Eastbound
- I-5 SB to Morrison Bridge
ODOT reiterates that this closure will be “24 hours, 7 days a week for up to 5 weeks.”
I-5 northbound will remain open, and ODOT encourages drivers to use I-405 as a detour.
