PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The reviews are in. An Oregon-set film led by a five-time Oscar nominee is an “adrenaline-spiked adventure,” according to critics.
“The Weight” premiered in theaters on Friday. KOIN 6 previously reported that it stars Ethan Hawke as a father who is sent to a work camp after the death of his wife. The trailer shows him telling the warden that he has just one month until his daughter is put up for adoption.

Set during the Great Depression in 1930s Oregon, though The Hollywood Reporter noted it was filmed in Bavaria just last summer, the historical drama also stars Russell Crowe. The Oscar winner portrays the leader of the labor camp — who tells Hawke’s character that he could be released early and reunite with his daughter if he joins other prisoners in smuggling gold from a mine.
