The scammers “have threatened individuals with repercussions of not paying debts with a warrant and demanding payment over the phone,” the sheriff’s office said in a release. “We would like to firmly advise all community members that this is a scam — genuine law enforcement and federal agencies do not act in this manner.”
If there are any doubts, officials advise people to hang up immediately and call the sheriff’s non-emergency line at 503-588-5032 and ask to speak with the Deputy purportedly making the call. People can also report suspect scams on the Federal Trade Commission’s website .
