TriMet shares plan to shorten commutes through downtown Portland, add night buses

PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) – Do you ever wish your commute through downtown Portland was shorter? TriMet does, too.

The transportation agency wants to make its MAX lines faster, starting with its overnight maintenance system and the Red and Blue lines that run straight through the heart of Portland.

TriMet says they are renewing their plans to close the Skidmore Fountain MAX Station after recent research showed ridership hadn’t increased in the area for 10 months. Doing so could shorten commutes by about 45 seconds each way.

If you do happen to rely on the Skidmore stop, you’ll still be able to catch the light rail at the Old Town/Chinatown Station two blocks away or the Oak/SW First Avenue Station about four blocks south.

TriMet also plans to “establish a network of night buses in place of late-night MAX trains,” starting by expanding their Line 291-Orange Night Bus to allow trains to receive overnight maintenance without impacting nighttime commutes.
