With plenty of coastline and rugged mountains, Oregon has some truly spectacular bridges that will wow even experienced travelers. Many of its most picturesque bridges are along the rugged Pacific coast with views of the ocean. Others cross rivers and streams to bring travelers into Oregon’s vibrant cities. Some are even pedestrian footbridges, which allow visitors to get a unique experience as they cross the bridge.
Thomas Creek Bridge
This is the highest bridge in Oregon at 345 feet tall. The Thomas Creek Bridge is on a particularly scenic stretch of U.S. Route 101 with sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean to one side. It goes over rugged rocks and evergreens that are common in this part of Oregon and the coast. You can even go camping, fishing, or birdwatching in this area.
The Thomas Creek Bridge is a Warren Deck truss bridge. It has a guardrail but the bridge is supported by trusses underneath rather than anything overhead. This allows motorists to enjoy unobstructed views of the landscape. Just make sure to pay close attention to the road as you drive across. It doesn’t have a shoulder and only has one lane of traffic in either direction.
