Late on New Year’s Day, January 1st, East Precinct officers arrived at a reported a motor vehicle crash at 10:23 p.m., near the intersection of S.E. 82nd Avenue of Roses and Woodstock Boulevard.
They first saw a 2011 Hyundai Sonata, with substantial rear-end damage, facing northbound. Behind it, at the “stop line” of the intersection, officers found a demolished 2023 Harley Davidson motorcycle, and a badly injured driver.
The motorcyclist, identified on January 4th as 32-year-old Jesse J. Loyer, of Portland, was taken to a local hospital by ambulance, where he later died.
The occupants of the Hyundai – an adult male and female – suffered minor injuries and remained at the scene to cooperate with the investigation.
For hours into the night, the PPB’s Major Crash Team (MCT) investigated the crash, closing S.E. 82nd between Martins and Ramona Streets. The preliminary finding was that motorcyclist Loyer was northbound on 82nd Avenue of Roses when he rear-ended the Hyundai, at the time stopped for a red light at the intersection.
