Two teenagers have been arrested in connection to a child abduction case last year that started in Northeast Portland and spilled into Gresham.
A 13-year-old boy and 14-year-old boy both face charges related to the November 2023 incident. The younger boy faces second-degree kidnapping, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and first-degree robbery; while the other faces unlawful use of a motor vehicle. The pair were arrested Friday, Feb. 9, by Portland Police officers.
The incident occurred at 7:21 a.m. November 30 near Northeast Halsey Street and Northeast 126th Avenue. A three-year-old girl was sitting in a car that was warming up when a young man jumped in and drove off. The girl’s father had gone inside the home for a moment, and stepped outside when the theft was happening. He opened the door of the car and yelled a child was inside, but the teen suspect sped away.
A short time later, near Northeast San Rafael Street and Northeast 113th Avenue, a resident saw the car driving recklessly. A moment later that person saw the little girl walking down the street. An officer was flagged down and the girl was safely reunited with her parents.
