After winning their last tournament the Crook County Cowgirls look ready to challenge for their regional championship this coming weekend in Scappoose.
The Cowgirls will compete in Class 4A/3A/2A/1A Special District 1, which has 45 schools who have at least one girl wrestler. The meet will be in Cottage Grove.
Crook County is currently ranked second in the state to Sweet Home, while league rival La Grande is ranked third.
The Cowgirls will have their work cut out for them if they hope to win the district meet as several schools have far more wrestlers on their roster. Tillamook lists 30 wrestlers on their girls roster, while La Grande has 26. Crook County has just 13 girls on the roster and had only 11 compete at their final meet before district. Other teams with large contingents of wrestlers at the district meet will include St. Helens, 24, Warrenton, 15, Baker/Powder Valley, 15, Scappoose, 14, Willamina, 14, Rainier 12, Vale 12, Yamhill-Carlton 11, Dayton 11, and North Marion, 11.
