PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — Flight attendants with Alaska Airlines voted to authorize a strike as thousands of workers with several airline companies represented by the same union picketed outside of airports across the globe Tuesday, including at Portland International Airport.
If a flight attendant strike does happen with Alaska Airlines, it would be their first in more than 30 years.

More than 99% of attendants represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA voted to authorize strike, with over 93% of workers participating. They said the airline has the money to invest in flight attendants and they’ll do whatever it takes.
In a statement, AK Airlines officials said they’re in active negotiations and have a history of successfully negotiating with union partners. The full statement from the airline can be viewed on their website .
The union must request a release from the National Mediation Board which would then be followed by a month-long “cooling off” period before a strike could begin.
