PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — Early Wednesday, The National Weather Service announced a winter weather advisory for the Greater Portland Metro Area.
According to the NWS, the advisory is in effect beginning at 8 p.m. Wednesday night and lasts until 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
Breaking down the chances for snow in Portland starting Wednesday
The region is expected to be hit by wet snow and strong wind gusts, primarily in areas north and east of Interstate 205 and places above 500 feet of elevation, NWS said.
Drivers in those areas are cautioned because road conditions could become slippery, officials said.

So just how much snow could we see? It really depends, according to KOIN 6 Meteorologist Kelley Bayern. Although any snowfall in the city is expected to melt quickly, Wednesday’s daytime temperatures could be a determining factor in Portland’s chances for snow .
“If we don’t break the 40s today and start to see snow showers arrive this evening, we may have a snowstorm knocking on the door,” Bayern said.
