Bend Uber driver arrested for alleged 30-minute kidnapping

PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — A Bend Uber driver was arrested Tuesday after authorities said he kidnapped a woman for 30 minutes.

According to Bend police, a Woman said she was using the Uber app to get a ride home, which was around 5 minutes away from her pickup location.

The Uber driver, later identified as Rocky Heath, 48, picked the woman up at around 6:26 p.m. which is when officials said the ride didn’t go as requested.

At 6:29, authorities said that Heath canceled the ride and drove the woman around for 25 to 30 minutes despite her requests to take her to her home. Eventually, after half an hour, the woman was dropped off at her home.

Police began a search for Heath’s car and eventually said they conducted a traffic stop just before 11:20 p.m.

Heath was taken into custody on suspicion of second-degree kidnapping and second-degree disorderly conduct.

Police said the incident is still under investigation.
