Sweltering Heat Wave Bears Down on Oregon, Temperatures Soar to 100 Degrees in Some Cities

Portland, OR – Unseasonably hot conditions continue to grip the Portland area through Saturday, with temperatures expected to reach between 95 and 100 degrees across the Willamette Valley and Columbia River Gorge. The National Weather Service has extended Heat Advisories and Excessive Heat Warnings until 10 PM Friday.

Hazy skies from wildfire smoke will persist, and dry, windy conditions are raising fire weather concerns, especially in the Cascades and Columbia River Gorge. Although temperatures are expected to cool slightly next week, elevated fire risks will remain through Friday evening. There is also a slight chance of thunderstorms over the Linn and Lane County Cascades.

Cooler, more seasonable temperatures and potential rain are forecast for next week. Residents are urged to take precautions against the heat and remain vigilant regarding fire safety.
