PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) – An Oregon salmon program is under the spotlight after LGBTQ+ personality and comedian Jonathan Van Ness posed a question to their audience during a stop in Portland — and then recently posted the video to social media pages.
“I was doing a little pre-research for the show,” Van Ness explained onstage at Helium Comedy Club on Oct. 11. “But is it true that you guys get to raise salmon in school? From like a little egg?”
“So, it starts as an egg and then you guys rear it to an adult salmon?” the Emmy Award-winner asked.

One audience member said Oregonians don’t hatch the eggs in class before another audience member said they do, to which Van Ness jokingly said, “Oh my God, I’m going to start a fight.”
“Don’t freak out you guys, I know that it’s like outdoors. I know we have to protect the f—-ing salmon, you guys,” Van Ness said.
A Nov. 8 clip of the stand-up bit made its way to Reed Fischer, an Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife biologist with the Salmon Trout Enhancement Program .
