Portland man rescued hiking Cape Horn Trail in Skamania County

PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — A 57-year-old Portland man was rescued while hiking the Cape Horn Trail in Skamania County on Nov. 29.

The man required a rescue after suffering a crippling knee injury, the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office said. Volunteers with the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office’s Silver Star Search and Rescue Teams responded to the call and carried the injured hiker back to the trailhead.

“Thank you to the multiple volunteers who responded and assisted with this search, taking time away from their families on the Thanksgiving weekend to selflessly serve others,” Skamania County Sheriff’s Office said.

The SCSO has received numerous rescue calls since October.

Trail conditions are expected to become more treacherous as colder, more-severe winter weather hits the region.
