‘In limbo’: Portland’s Cornet Custard reeling after federal grant freeze

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – Southeast Portland’s Cornet Custard has begun to make its mark on Portland since opening last summer. However, its owner is now turning to the community, saying a federal grant freeze has left her with a bill bigger than her budget.

“I’m exhausted. It’s scary to be in this, like kind of just this, this limbo,” said Mika Paredes, owner, founder, and chef behind Cornet Custard.

The shop opened on SE Division just last June. Paredes said the neighborhood has been beyond welcoming- so much so, that she required a bigger freezer to stock local dairy products…
