Sanctuary Sunday Service to honor 11-year-old Jocelynn Rojo Carranza at Augustana Lutheran

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — Augustana Lutheran Church will hold its inaugural Sanctuary Sunday Service and a candlelight vigil this Sunday to honor the life of 11-year-old Jocelynn Rojo Carranza.

Jocelynn died by suicide in Texas, and her death is under investigation by school police, following allegations of bullying related to her family’s immigration status.

Jocelynn’s mother, Marbella Carranza, reported that her daughter faced insults from classmates who claimed her family was in the U.S. illegally. Jocelynn died on Feb. 8, five days after being found unresponsive at home, according to an online obituary.
