A fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon on a Port of Vancouver ship loader that transfers grain, fire officials said.
The small blaze started around 4:30 p.m. near 1905 Northwest Harborside Drive on Vancouver’s waterfront, across from Hayden Island. Firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the grain-filled loader, the Vancouver Fire Department said in a statement.
Around 30 firefighters fought the flames and used an elevator in the loader to remove and extinguish the burning grain, fire officials said. A Vancouver fire boat was on the scene, assisting firefighters on the grain loader.
