Fourth body recovered from Portland waterway in less than two weeks

The body recovered from the Columbia River near Hayden Island by Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office crews Thursday afternoon, April 24 marked the fourth recovered from a Portland river in less than two weeks.

The body had yet to be identified as of Friday afternoon. According to the sheriff’s office, this rate of discovering bodies in the city’s rivers is not uncommon.

“The recent number of body recoveries falls within the normal, or expected, range,” Deputy John Plock said via email. “To illustrate, in April 2024, MCSO recovered three bodies from waterways within our jurisdiction over a 12-day period. This month, April 2025, we have recovered four bodies in a 12-day span. These figures are statistically similar and do not currently indicate an unusual spike.”…
