MOTHER’S DAY FORECAST

Good morning! Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms, moms-to-be, and motherly figures!!

With nearly two weeks without measurable rain in Portland, it’s time to get some much-needed moisture into the forecast. We’re tracking an upper-level low that’s approaching from the west. Showers will arrive today and last through Monday. We recommend you have a backup, indoor or undercover location if you’re celebrating outside today. Highs will be near seasonable… In the 60s.

TIMING? Most of the morning looks to be dry with the exception of the Coast and Coast Range. Showers will slowly push eastward, and we expect showers to arrive in the metro/valleys around Noon. Scattered, passing showers will continue through the afternoon. There may be a brief break from the rain in the evening, but that will be short-lived before showers turn steady overnight tonight.

AMOUNTS? The amount of rain we accumulate highly depends on the speed and coverage of the showers this afternoon. We’re expecting up to a few tenths of an inch in the valleys, and up to a half an inch along the Coast and in the Cascades.

T-STORM CHANCE? There is a very low (10-20%) chance of an isolated thunderstorm in the valleys this afternoon. Remember if you are outside and hear thunder, you need to go indoors for at least 30 minutes since the last strike. Also, the radar on our FOX 12 Weather App will be a great tool to track the showers!

MONDAY

Monday will likely be our “wettest” with the main band of moisture pushing northward from the upper-level low that’s focused to our south. Highs will be in the 60s.

TIMING? Your morning commute will be the wettest with steady rain expected through lunchtime. Things lighten up in the afternoon, and we may dry out shortly before sunset…
