18 year-old driver appears in court, charged with manslaughter in death of Scappoose teen

PORTLAND, Ore. — Ayden Heard, 18, appeared in Multnomah County court Monday after he was arrested over the weekend in connection with a fatal crash on Sauvie Island that killed a teenage girl.

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office said the crash occurred early Sunday morning near the 14900 block of Northwest Gillihan Road. Deputies responded to a report of a person not breathing around 12:40 a.m. and found a teenage girl dead at the scene. The crash involved a utility task vehicle, or UTV—an off-road vehicle designed for both recreation and work.
