Silverton Hospital doctor placed on leave while facing charges in deadly hit-and-run

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A doctor is on administrative leave from the Emergency Department at Legacy Silverton Hospital after he was arrested for a deadly hit and run, according to his employer.

Kenneth Kolarsky was arrested Saturday on allegations that he is the driver who hit and killed a pedestrian the day after Christmas 2024.

Nicolas Hernandez-Mendoza, 44, was at a crosswalk on Pacific Highway north of Williams Avenue when he was hit by a driver who fled the scene. He died at Salem Hospital a short while later.

Nearly five months later, Kolarsky was arrested by Silverton and Woodburn police on an outstanding warrant for felony hit-and-run. The 58-year-old Portland resident works at the Legacy Silverton Hospital and was arrested outside their facility, officials said.
