Man Arrested After Incident At Portland Pizza Shop

PORTLAND, Ore. – A man police say was armed with large kitchen knives was safely taken into custody Wednesday evening after allegedly causing a disturbance and barricading himself inside a pizza shop in Southeast Portland.

Officers responded just after 6 p.m. to reports of a man screaming in the street, blocking traffic, and throwing trash at passing vehicles in the 4400 block of Southeast Woodstock Boulevard. As officers headed to the scene, dispatchers received updates that the man had entered a nearby Papa Murphy’s pizza shop, damaged property, and threatened staff before they evacuated and locked the doors.

When police arrived, the suspect emerged from the back of the store holding two large knives and reportedly rushed at officers. Officers backed away and locked the doors, preventing him from exiting. Police then used patrol vehicles to block the entrance and called for additional resources…
