Dan Field, director of Multnomah County’s Homeless Services Department, will retire in mid-June after two years in his role. In an exclusive interview with The Oregonian/OregonLive, Field urged local leaders and elected officials to do a better job working together and to create more housing.
The former Kaiser Permanente executive has said he always planned to stay at the county for a short time – just long enough to stabilize the office, improve relationships with the city of Portland and create a plan for how to tackle homelessness.
“I never joined the office with the goal of ending homelessness,” Field said. “That’s not for one person to do. I joined the office with the goal of moving the baton forward (and) leaving our community slightly better than I found it. … And I think I’ve done that.”…
