Shooter in deadly road rage incident sentenced to life in prison

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man who was found guilty last month of killing one person and injuring another during a road rage was sentenced to life in prison on Friday.

Geoffrey Edward Hammond, 48, was sentenced for second-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder following the road rage incident that happened in downtown Portland two years ago.

Following a mistrial in 2024, a jury reached a guilty verdict for the two charges on May 1.

On October 9, 2023, Hammond was partially blocking traffic at an intersection outside of the Moxy Hotel on Southwest Alder Street, where a man later identified as Ryan Martin pulled up behind Hammond’s car, according to court documents
