Driver who plowed through Portland homeless camp pleads guilty to manslaughter

PORTLAND, Ore. — A man charged with killing one person and trying to injure others by driving his car through Portland homeless camp early last year pleaded guilty Monday to a reduced charge of first-degree manslaughter.

Shane McKeever, 23, entered the plea during a hearing in Multnomah County Circuit Court. He admitted to recklessly causing the death of David Bently, a 48-year-old man known on the streets as “Dino Dave.”
