Oswego Lake isn’t private. It’s just closed to non-residents on a major summer holiday

Life, liberty — and the pursuit of a previously private pond — will have to wait ‘til after Independence Day.

That’s the interpretation of irate advocates since Lake Oswego officials announced a four-day closure of the upscale suburb’s lone lake public access point over the July Fourth weekend.

The closure is a de-facto temporary ban on public access, as all other docks and swim parks at Oswego Lake are either privately controlled or limited to those with easements or a city address…
