Some of Portland’s smallest art has received national recognition

The Portland Horse Project ranks among 126 memorable art installations across the country, according to a survey by River Art.

If you’re not familiar with the Portland Horse Project, it’s part art oddity, part funny historical reminder. They are tiny horse sculptures/toys that are harnessed to the old horse rings you can see along sidewalks in Portland.

These rings were used when horses were the main form of transportation, so cowpokes could tie up their equine partners while they conducted business in the city…
