1978 cold case murder of 20-year-old woman solved by West Linn police

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – The cold case of a 20-year-old woman’s death has been solved more than four decades after her murder.

Diana Kuhn was found dead in December 1978, but her case remained unsolved until the investigation was reopened by the West Linn Police Department.

Using modern DNA analysis, a previously identified person of interest was confirmed to be the homicide suspect. The man, David Lawrence Atkeson, died in February 1989.

“The DA’s office ‘strongly believes’ that if David Atkeson were still alive today, he would be indicted, tried and subsequently convicted on charges of the Sexual Assault and Aggravated Murder of Ms. Kuhn,” WLPD said in a statement…
