1 slain near downtown Portland library; 1 arrested

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Shots rang out near the downtown Portland Central Library mid-afternoon Tuesday, leaving one person dead and another person in custody following a foot chase.

Around 3:30 p.m., a man was shot around SW 10th and Yamhill. Arriving officers found the wounded man and rushed him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Very quickly, a suspect was spotted around SW 4th and Alder, where he was “challenged” by police and taken into custody only about 10 minutes after the shooting.

Neither the identity of the victim nor the suspect has been released. The investigation into the entire case is open and active.
