Holiday closure of public Oswego Lake access prompts threat of legal action

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. (KATU) — The decades-old battle over public access to Oswego Lake continues as the city’s decision to limit lake access over the holiday weekend has prompted a threat of legal action.

In an bulletin advising of road closures and Independence Day events, the city notified the public that access to the lake through Millennium Plaza Park would be closed from the evening of July 3 through the morning of July 7.

Until the March 3 ruling which ordered the city to open lake access to the public through the park, Oswego Lake had only been accessible to roughly 4,000 homes with an easement…
