Safety improvements to cause disruptions on NE Portland corridor

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A comprehensive street construction project is set to begin Monday to resolve key safety issues “in the heart of the NE Broadway business district,” according to the Portland Bureau of Transportation.

In what PBOT officials are calling “a long awaited investment,” construction will start by repaving a more than half-mile stretch of Northeast Weidler and Broadway, after crews began building new ADA corner ramps in the last year.

PBOT says their crews will remove and replace damaged pavement, as well as make additional safety improvements, including new pedestrian crossings, concrete islands, reduced speed limits and others.

During the repaving period, PBOT says to expect rough roads, delays, and detours from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, with potential for some weekend work.

Additionally, only one lane of traffic will be open in the work zone during the repaving and some street parking will not be allowed…
