4-alarm blaze resident: ‘Inferno blocking our escape’

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Abraham Olmos woke up around 3:30 a.m. Friday in his home at the Vandalay Arms Apartment Complex to get ready for a camping trip. He heard a commotion downstairs.

“I heard my downstairs neighbor having what could only be described as a manic episode,” Olmos told KOIN 6 News.

A few hours later, he said he heard someone scream, “Fire!” at the apartments near Northeast 104th and East Burnside.

“I opened my front door,” he said. “I couldn’t describe to you other than it seeming like a living inferno right outside my door, blocking our entire escape.”…
