Two individuals are now behind bars following a heist that raised eyebrows for its audacity and the use of heavy construction equipment to pilfer cash. According to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, following an investigation into a June 23 ATM theft involving a stolen excavator, two arrests have unfolded, offering a twist in a tale already notable for its uncommon modus operandi.
The first arrest came last Friday, when deputies apprehended Matthew Evan Armour, a 32-year-old, as he was leaving a parking lot at an apartment complex in Happy Valley. Detectives were there to execute a search warrant connected to the case. Armour is facing a slew of charges: Felony Criminal Conspiracy, Aggravated Theft I, Criminal Mischief I, Theft I, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, and a parole violation from Multnomah County. He’s being held on $60,000 bail. His companion-in-crime, Kevin Owen Miller, 51, was arrested the subsequent morning in Portland, with an outstanding warrant tied to the ATM theft operation, as detailed by the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.
Miller’s capture by Portland Police Bureau officers on July 12 was set in motion near SE 52nd Avenue and SE Holgate Street. He is currently lodged at the Multnomah County Detention Center, with charges mirroring those of Armour. Once procedures are complete, he’ll be transported to Clackamas County Jail, as per the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.
