Lost mountain biker returns home safe after six days in Mount Hood wilderness

PORTLAND, Ore. — After nearly a week in the Mount Hood National Forest wilderness, a lost mountain biker has been found safe – albeit “tired, cold, dirty, and worn out,” the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Ralph Sawyer, 52, was reported missing last Friday after he didn’t return from a planned mountain biking trip. Crews found his car the next morning with his cell phone inside the vehicle, and continued the search for the next several days.

Deputies said that Sawyer showed up to a neighbor’s house in Gresham at about 9:30 a.m. Thursday, “tired, cold, dirty, and worn out.”…
