A Portland man’s morning cigar break turned into a fight for survival against a hammer-wielding attacker

It didn’t take long for Jonathan Langdon to determine that the man standing in front of him on the sidewalk might be trouble.

For one, the man was holding a hammer. And when the stranger began trying to have a conversation with Langdon, his speech was erratic and punctuated with personal questions.
