Portlanders to vote on 75% parks levy hike after unanimous city council approval

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — On the same day that Portland Parks & Recreation director Adena Long announced her resignation, city leaders referred a long-debated parks levy hike to voters.

Portland City Council has unanimously approved a resolution that will send the proposed $1.40 levy to the November 2025 ballot. This represents a 75% increase from the current 80-cent rate, which was approved by 64% of voters in 2020 and expires next year.

Earlier this month, the council’s Climate, Resilience & Land Use Committee debated between a $1.37 rate — which would cover “partnership funding” and maintain funding levels for PP&R’s current priority items — and a $1.47 rate that would add another $6 million for “capital maintenance projects.”

But Willamette Week reported last week that Portland Metro Chamber negotiated a tax that would instead charge $1.40 per $1,000 of assessed property value…
