Librarian’s family awarded $20M against DUII driver who hit, killed her at Portland bus stop

A Multnomah County civil jury slapped a convicted drunk driver with $20.5 million in damages Monday for killing a librarian beloved by local children for her storytime tales.

Jeanie Diaz was waiting for a bus home to her husband and two kids when she was struck and killed just across the street from the Belmont branch library on July 11, 2023. She was 43.
