PORTLAND, Ore.–Top leaders in the Portland region are trying to work together on what they say is the most urgent problem they need to solve: homelessness. They held their latest session on Friday. A call to action and compassion came from Portland Mayor Keith Wilson. “After a recent tragedy, we had a person die on the streets of Portland. Found behind a dumpster riddled with maggots. This is more important than a conversation. This is about immediate action. We have to shake things up. When I go into my office, I close the doors and I cry,” he said.
Wilson said the pressure’s on to meet goals by the end of the year.
“If we don’t hit the 1000 beds and have been clear for eight months, we made a promise to the community. We must deliver on that promise. And the city of Portland, our council has stepped up. And it’s funded with tens of millions of dollars.”…
