Portland settles lawsuit after Irving Park light pole falls on boy, babysitter

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – The City of Portland settled a lawsuit for nearly $1 million after a nine-year-old child and his babysitter were injured by a concrete light pole that fell on them in Irving Park.

The case goes back to June 23, 2022, when Portland Fire & Rescue reported that the babysitter and child were lying on a hammock that the babysitter tied onto a light pole and tree when the light pole fell on them, seriously wounding the boy.

According to the complaint filed in the Multnomah County Circuit Court on January 2, 2024, the caretaker also suffered multiple injuries.

“Plaintiff’s permanent injuries include concussion with loss of consciousness, bilateral femur injuries, lacerations to her forehead, pelvis crush injury, rectal bleeding, anxiety,” court documents stated…
