City leaders have tried diligently to help our beautiful Portland recover from the last six years of disasters. Commercial enterprises have suffered from the lack of people using downtown for shopping, eating and working. In order to have people come to the downtown area, we must encourage them any way we can. Yet one of the first things we do is raise the parking rate and extend the hours that fees apply, (“Largest parking meter hike in Portland history goes into effect,” July 3).
Did all 12 city councilors and the mayor miss reviewing this plan to continue to push people away from the downtown? We may need more councilors…
