Man accused in SE Portland fatal stabbing is older brother of teen shot to death by Vancouver police in 2019

The 28-year-old man accused of a fatal stabbing in a Southeast Portland home earlier this month is the older brother of a teen who was shot to death by Vancouver police six years ago.

S. Mate Joseph was 22 when his brother, 16-year-old Clayton Joseph, was shot and killed in February 2019 outside of a Vancouver apartment complex. Then-Police Cpl. Roger Evans, who retired from the department last year, shot Clayton Joseph once. The officer said Clayton Joseph had a knife in his hand and was threatening him.
